Mevo Hama (a.k.a. Mevo Hamma, Mevo Chama)
On 9th January 1968 a group of 8 kibbutzniks, mainly from the
kibbutzim of the Jordan Valley, set up camp in the deserted Train Station at El Hamma – in the region known today as Hammat Gader. Their aim was to found a kibbutz on the Southern Golan Heights, a place which had previously threatened the Jordan Valley. Later that year this small group left the humidity of El Hamma and climbed up the Golan- to the present site of the kibbutz. Quickly new faces appeared: - from other kibbutzim, from the Israeli Scout movement, the Nachal and Olim (new immigrants) from the British and Australian Habonim Youth Movement.
And so the second settlement on the Golan Heights was established –Kibbutz Merom Golan in the North being the first.
The Kibbutz has both Industry:
Mapal (Polypropylene Factory), El Hamma Electronic Instruments-
and Agriculture: Vineyards, Field Crops, Herbs, Mango Plantation,
Beef Herd. There are joint projects with neighbouring communities which include Almond Groves and Chicken Houses. Mevo Hama is also a partner in the Hammat Gader Hot Springs and Alligator Park.
In line with the changes in the Kibbutz Movement, many members have started their own small businesses in diversified fields such as :-Photographic Studio, Art Gallery, Tourism, Cosmetician, Hairdresser, Graphics Studio, Spiritual Advice, and more.
Mevo Hama boasts a view of the entire Kinneret. On a clear day you can see the University of Haifa Tower, Mount Tabor, Mount Hermon, Arbel, Meiron and more.
Recently Mevo Hama has become a home to families building their own houses on land adjacent to the kibbutz. This new community and the kibbutz will live side by side and share the services provided by Mevo Hama.
